Position Summary:
The Shift Supervisor functions as an interface with the Operations, Maintenance and Department Management and controls on-site and off-site areas, to ensure that all production activities are carried out timely and efficiently according to standard operating procedures. The Shift Supervisor controls the shift operations in specific areas, to ensure that all production activities are carried out safely and efficiently, to meet the operational targets. Promotes a strong culture of safety and teamwork to ensure quality implementation of all Maaden operational Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) guidelines, and the Continuous Improvement Process.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Shift Supervisor Support
- Shift Supervisor controls the shift operations in specific areas to ensure that all production activities are carried out safely and efficiently to meet the operational targets.
- Assist Department management in planning and organizing resources (human & equipment) needed to deliver the departments objectives.
- Assists in the development of departments KPI's to ensure responsiveness to customers and to promote continuous improvement on a 24/7 basis.
- Review and monitor all aspects of shift operations and coordinate closely with counterparts to ensure smooth operations and reliability of the plant functions.
- Authorize work permits and ensure compliance with all lock-out/tag-out procedures.
- Ensure all actions are taken for the safe shut-down/start-up of the plant in line with standard operating procedures.
Training and Familiarization:
- Evaluate staff performance to assess the effectiveness of available staff to meet current and future needs.
- Identify training requirements and conduct required training for staff in a specified area on any changes to the following and organize on-the-job training programs to ensure improvement in their quality of work.
- Operating procedures,
- New technology and/or upgrades,
- Safety precautions for the safe and efficient running of the plant.
- Manages on-site and off-site, hands-on mentorship to new hires or existing personnel that includes training, coaching and guidance for execution of work controls and maintenance processes.
Trouble Shooting and Decision Making:
- Generate quick and prompt decision making solutions to resolve operating problems to meet the shift production targets.
Minimum Education:
Minimum diploma in Engineering or equivalent training and experience with sound knowledge of chemical processes and operations.
Experience and Qualifications:
8 to 10 years operational and supervisory experience in a fertilizer or chemical industry. Detailed technical knowledge of the specific process being operated is required.
