TBM Construction Manager

Successfully manage the construction of tunnels or metro projects in KAS or MENA region.

Develop construction methodology and program for underground works with several TBM (2-3nos. of TBM)

Ensure compliance with safety regulations, project timelines, quality standards, and budget requirements.

Establish effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders throughout the project.

Responsibilities

Leadership:

Provide strong leadership and direction to the tunnel construction team.

Foster a culture of safety, quality, and collaboration.

Set clear expectations and objectives for the tunnel construction team.

Management of Suppliers & Sub-contractors, etc.:

Identify and engage suitable suppliers and sub-contractors, operators, engineers, manpower for TBM tunnel construction activities.

Manage contracts and agreements with suppliers and sub-contractors, self-performed manpower.

Monitor and coordinate the work of TBM tunnel works to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and timelines.

Efficiently manage supplier payments and invoicing processes.

Engagement during Development Phase:

Collaborate with the project development team to provide TBM tunnel construction insights and expertise during the planning and design stages.

Review construction-related documents, such as drawings and specifications, and provide feedback as needed.

Identify potential construction challenges and propose innovative solutions.

Contribute to the optimization of TBM tunnel designs and construction methodologies.

RFT / Tender Stage:

Participate in the Request for Tender (RFT) process, including evaluating bids and planning the self-performed construction.

Negotiate and finalize contractual terms and conditions with the selected contractor.

Develop and manage the construction budget, ensuring cost effectiveness and adherence to project requirements.

Project Delivery Phase:

Lead the construction activities for tunnel works (especially TBM works), ensuring adherence to project plans, schedules, and budget.

Coordinate and supervise on-site TBM works and tunnel construction activities.

Collaborate closely with the project team, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure successful project execution.

Review and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications to guide and oversee on-site activities.

Develop and implement construction strategies, methodologies, and quality control processes.

Monitor and enforce compliance with safety regulations, environmental requirements, and industry best practices.

Identify and resolve construction-related challenges and issues in a timely and efficient manner.

Conduct regular inspections and quality control assessments to maintain high standards of workmanship.

Manage project resources effectively, including materials, equipment, and personnel.

Prepare and maintain accurate documentation of construction activities, progress reports, and budgets.

Foster a positive work environment, promoting effective communication and collaboration among team members

Client Relationships:

Build and maintain strong relationships with the client, providing regular updates on tunnel progress.

Understand and address client requirements and concerns throughout the TBM tunnel construction process.

Ensure client satisfaction and timely resolution of any issues or disputes.

Team Building & Delivery:

Recruit, train, and manage the tunnel team, ensuring the right skillset and resources are available.

Provide guidance, support, and performance feedback to team members.

Foster a collaborative and motivated team environment.

Monitor and manage team workload and allocation of resources.

Strategy & Innovation

Identify and implement innovative construction techniques and technologies to enhance project efficiency and delivery.

Continuously evaluate and improve construction processes, workflows, and safety practices.

Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and mitigate potential project risks.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or a related field.

Relevant certifications in construction project management, safety management, or related areas.

Extensive industry experience (> 15 years)

Extensive experience in construction management, specifically in large-scale projects in the tunnel or metro sector

Preferred to experienced person in MENA

At least 3 project of TBM experience and a large diameter TBM (> 10m) experience

Strong knowledge of tunnel construction management principles, techniques, and best practices.

Familiarity with relevant building codes, regulations, and safety standards.

Proficiency in project management tools and software.

Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
